The boy who harnessed the wind
“The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind” tells the true story of Kamkwamba, the young Malawian genius who built a windmill entirely via DIY methods in the early 2000s, to save his family and village from drought and famine. Born in Kasungu, Malawi, Willim Kamkwamba is a young 13 year old schoolboy who comes from a family of farmers who live in the nearby village of Wimbe. William has a talent for fixing radios for his friends and neighbors and spends his free time looking through the local junkyard for salvageable electronic components. Mostly self-taught, he sees things that others miss. By the mid-2000s, the family’s crops fail due to drought and the resulting famine devastates William’s village, leading to riots over government rationing. William’s family is also robbed of their already meager grain stores. People soon begin abandoning the village, After he has to give up school because of the drought, he finds a way to gain access to the school’s library. When his family and community face famine, he researches ways to use wind which is plentiful in their area to create energy to pump needed water. With the help of his friends and the few remaining members of the village, they build a full-size wind turbine which leads to a successful crop being sown.
The boy shows how to be successful in our life without giving up in front of bigger harder challenges we face in our life time. And it shows courageous people stand up against things that threaten them or the things or people that they care about. They take action in a way that is consistent with their values. Sometimes, however, the action required is not necessarily loud, but quiet and thoughtful.
The positive mindset we should have in our life because learning how to deal with challenges takes time, persistence, and a positive attitude. No matter your life situation, the hard times will happen. But, with the right mindset and practice, you will be able to overcome them every time and grow in the process.
Also this movie shows how we should be able to think big because It can be easy to let ourselves think small because of the fear of failure, or even the fear of making a decision. But, to accomplish great things in life, we have to be open to taking risks. With whatever challenges may arise, always think and dream big. That way, we will achieve more than what we could have ever imagined.
